Clevedon Electric — your local EV charger installer with the van
Why local matters

You deal with the person doing the work. Start to finish.

No call centre, no subcontractor turning up instead. You message me, I quote you, I turn up, I do the job — and I'm based on Walton Road, so I'm around if you ever need anything after.

What you actually get

Done well, and easy to live with

A charger is only as good as the install behind it. Here's what's fitted as standard, in plain English — no jargon.

Surge & trip protection, fitted as standard
Two safety devices come as standard on every job. An SPD shields your charger and home electronics from power surges (think lightning or grid spikes). An RCBO gives the charger its own safety switch — if anything ever goes wrong, only the charger trips, not your whole house. Other installers charge extra for these. We don't.
Works with cheap-rate smart tariffs
Every charger we fit works with smart tariffs like Octopus Intelligent Go. It charges your car automatically overnight when electricity is cheapest — as little as 7.5p a unit instead of 28p+. You wake up to a full battery, and your bill is a fraction of public charging.
Simple to use, with a proper walkthrough
Charging is as easy as plugging in — the app does the rest. Before I leave, I'll set the app up on your phone, connect the smart tariff, and show you exactly how it works: how to charge, how to check usage, how to top up in a hurry. No manual to puzzle over.
All paperwork & warranties handled
The required notification to the energy network (DNO) and your electrical safety certificate are both sorted for you — nothing to file. You also get a 3 to 7-year manufacturer warranty on the charger and 12 months on the workmanship.

The price we quote is the price you pay.

Every package is a fixed price covering the charger, installation, surge and trip protection, cable run to the included length, the DNO notification, and your certificate. No add-ons on the day for things that should be standard.

The only things ever quoted separately are an extra-long cable run, groundworks if a cable needs burying, or a fuse board upgrade — and all of those are agreed with you before installation day, never sprung on you mid-job.

Is Your Clevedon Home Suitable?

✅ Good to go
Off-street parking and a modern metal fuse board with a spare slot. Most Clevedon homes from the 1980s onwards. Standard package applies.
⚠️ May need work
Older or plastic fuse board, or a long cable run. Common in older Clevedon streets. Quoted separately and agreed at survey if needed.
❌ Tricky
No off-street parking at all. Rare — but worth asking, as there may still be options worth exploring.
💬 Not sure?
WhatsApp a photo of your fuse board and parking. A clear answer comes back the same day, no obligation.

How much does EV charger installation cost in Clevedon?+
Installation starts from £925 fully fitted including VAT. The Sync Energy Tethered is £925, the MyEnergi GLO is £1,035, and the Andersen A3 starts from £1,481. Every package includes the charger, cable run, surge protection (SPD), a dedicated RCBO, the DNO G98 notification, electrical certificate, and app setup. The only potential extras are extended cable runs, groundworks, or fuse board work — all agreed at survey before any work is booked.
Do I need a new fuse board before getting an EV charger in Clevedon?+
Not always. The board needs a metal casing, a spare way, the ability to accept a Type A RCBO, and surge protection fitted. Many older Clevedon properties — particularly Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the town centre, Marine Parade, and the seafront — have plastic-cased consumer units or boards without spare capacity. Where that is the case, a consumer unit upgrade is the right starting point and is quoted separately before any charger work is agreed. Modern properties from the 1980s onwards are much less likely to need this.
Which EV charger do you recommend for a Clevedon home?+
For most Clevedon homeowners the MyEnergi GLO is the best all-round choice, particularly for properties with solar panels or plans to add them. It monitors your solar output and sends surplus generation into your car automatically, and is solar-ready from day one. The Sync Energy Tethered is the best value option with a fixed 7.5m cable. The Andersen A3 is the right choice where design matters — over 100 colour options with a 7-year warranty.
Can I charge my car from solar panels?+
Yes — the MyEnergi GLO was built for exactly this. It monitors your solar output in real time and automatically routes surplus generation into your car rather than exporting it to the grid. Energy that would otherwise earn a few pence at the export rate instead adds range for free. The Andersen A3 also supports solar integration. If you are planning to add solar later, the GLO is future-proof from day one.
What are the SPD and RCBO, in plain English?+
An SPD (Surge Protection Device) shields your charger and home electronics from power surges — the kind caused by lightning or grid switching. An RCBO is the charger's own dedicated safety switch: if a fault ever develops, only the charger circuit trips and the rest of your home stays on. Both are fitted as standard on every installation. Some installers leave them off to cut the price; we consider them essential.
Am I eligible for the OZEV grant?+
The OZEV Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme grant of up to £350 is available to flat owners with dedicated off-street parking, private renters with dedicated off-street parking, and landlords. Homeowners in a single-unit house are no longer eligible — that element closed in 2023. Where you qualify, the application is submitted on your behalf as part of the installation at no extra cost.
How quickly can you install in Clevedon?+
Most Clevedon installations can be booked within one to two weeks of a quote being agreed. Being based in Clevedon means scheduling is flexible — there is no travel overhead limiting availability. If you have a specific date in mind such as a new car arriving, get in touch as early as possible and the installation will be scheduled around it where possible.
Is planning permission required for a home EV charger in Clevedon?+
No. A domestic EV charger is classed as permitted development in England. No application to North Somerset Council is required. The only paperwork is the DNO G98 notification to Western Power Distribution, which is submitted on your behalf on installation day at no extra charge.

EV Charger Installation Across Clevedon

Clevedon has a varied housing stock across BS21, and the specifics of an EV charger installation depend significantly on the type and age of the property. Understanding the common scenarios before you enquire means there are no surprises when the survey happens.

The older properties around the town centre, Marine Parade, and the seafront streets are the most common source of pre-installation questions. Many have original consumer units that need reviewing before an EV circuit can be added — typically around whether the board is metal-cased, has spare capacity, and has surge protection fitted. Where it does not, a consumer unit upgrade is the right starting point.

For the post-war semis and newer estates to the east and south of Clevedon, installations are generally more straightforward. Most properties from the 1980s onwards have boards with enough capacity for a new EV circuit without a full upgrade. Clevedon's coastal position also matters for outdoor cable runs — appropriate weatherproofing is specified as standard for installations near the seafront.

Town centre & seafront
Victorian & Edwardian terraces
Fuse board review almost always needed first. Coastal weatherproofing for outdoor cable runs. Driveway access can be limited — surveyed before any price is fixed.
Eastern & southern estates
Post-war & 1970s–80s semis
Generally straightforward. Most have adequate fuse board capacity. Cable runs to driveway typically 5–10m. Standard spec in most cases.
Newer developments
1990s–2010s houses & flats
Modern boards with capacity. Cleanest installs. OZEV grant available for eligible flat owners with dedicated off-street parking.
Why charge at home

What Home Charging Saves a Clevedon Driver

Public rapid chargers across North Somerset cost up to 85p per kWh. A smart home charger on Octopus Intelligent Go costs as little as 7.5p overnight. For an average driver covering 800 miles a month, that is a saving of over £500 a year — meaning a home charger pays for itself in under two years for most drivers.

For Clevedon homeowners with solar panels, the MyEnergi GLO goes further still. It monitors your solar output and routes surplus generation into your car before it reaches the export meter. On a good North Somerset summer day, many GLO owners charge for essentially nothing.
